About The Opportunity
ROLE SUMMARY
Responsible forall aspects of the technical and product strategy for the Advanced MachinedStructures (AMS) group of businesses driving manufacturing technology toinnovative, unique and creative solutions for the customers. TheDirectorof Engineering Technology will work with the GKN Aerostructures North AmericaVP of Operational Excellence, collaborating on technology insertion across allGKN manufacturing sites. The incumbent will be the chief technical interfacewith the customers.
The Director of Engineering Technology is a member of the AdvancedMachined Structures leadership team and reports directly to the VP of AdvancedMachined Structures.The Advanced Machined Structuressubdivision is comprised of manufacturing facilities at Wellington, KS,Amityville, NY, Santa Ana and Camarillo, CA with a 2018 average headcount of656.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Engineering Technology
· Provide technical leadership for all aspects of the engineering activities in the AMS business
· Integrate the expertise and best practice across the division, to influence global standards and to leverage the exploitation of knowledge and capability for GKN benefit.
· Lead the implementation of the ‘Future Engineering’ initiative across the division with strong functional support to the business heads of Engineering and Technology, sharing best practice and enabling further improvements as required to maximise the benefits across the division.
· Leverage knowledge of customers, competitors, industry and academic experts to set the strategy for the future of design engineering across the division, integrating this as part of the Engineering & Technology strategy for the division.
· Integrate the expertise and best practice across the division, to influence global standards and to leverage the exploitation of knowledge and capability for GKN benefit.
· Lead the implementation of the ‘Future Engineering’ initiative across the division with strong functional support to the business heads of Engineering and Technology, sharing best practice and enabling further improvements as required to maximise the benefits across the division.
· Leverage knowledge of customers, competitors, industry and academic experts to set the strategy for the future of design engineering across the division, integrating this as part of the Engineering & Technology strategy for the division.

· Integrate the expertise and best practice across the division, to influence global standards and to leverage the exploitation of knowledge and capability for GKN benefit.
· Create the demand, justified by business case analysis, for advancements in design engineering capability in methods, tools, processes and systems, steering their development and overseeing their implementation.
· Integrates the engineering function with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, finance, business development and information technology functions consistent with the company’s objectives.
* Develops a close working relationship with the customer to assure engineering and quality activities are consistent with their expectations.
* Ensures that engineering activities are consistent with and support continuous improvement processes.
* Assures that the engineering team remains abreast with state-of-the art engineering technology.
Business Planning and Budgeting
· Participate in the development of the objectives and business plans of the enterprise and share responsibility for the general management of the business to achieve the targets set by the company.
· Manages the Engineering Technology organization’s budget in support of the company’s goals and objectives.
Human Resources
· Cooperates in the establishment of organizational structure, human resource policies and people development plans that create a high-performing engineering technology team and ensure harmonious workplace relations.
· Leads talent management within their functional area of responsibility and supports development of staff. Participates in the AMS Organizational Planning Process (OPP) by identifying and developing future leaders to address current and future resource and capability requirements.
· Complies with government regulations and the company’s Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action policies.
· Demonstrates leadership behaviors in promoting safety and health in the workplace and environment stewardship.

About you

Required Qualifications:

· Bachelor of Science Degree in an engineering or technical discipline, such as aerospace, quality engineering, mechanical engineering or related field, or equivalentexperience and education.

· Minimum of 10 years applicable experience in the field of manufacturing large complex machined parts and assemblies for Aerostructures.

· 10 years experience with complex engineering tasks and in particular, experience collaborating with customerson creating innovative technology to meet their requirements.

· US citizenship or evidence ofauthorization to work in the US for any employer for an indefinite amount oftime.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Demonstrated excellent abilities in writtenand presentation skills

· Demonstrated organizational skills withmanaging multiple priorities.

· Demonstrated ability to influence acrossfunctional lines within company and within client organizations.

· Demonstrated ability to direct, review,assist and develop both direct reports and others, such as technicalcollaborators, in a positive and supportive fashion.

· Proficient with MS Office, includingWord, Excel and PowerPoint skills.

· Masters degree in Engineering or technical field.

· Program Management and/or Project Management skills.

· Good inter-personal skills for collaboration internally and withexternal customers.

· Knowledge of Aerospace Specifications with multiple customers desirable, such as Boeing, Lockheed, Northrup, Cessna, Bombardier, etc.

· Demonstrated application of continuous improvementprinciples and tools that improved processes and delivery of services to theircustomer.

· Working knowledge of Special Processing

· Working knowledge of Configuration Management and BOM control of complexassemblies.

· Working knowledge various softwareprograms such as Project Management, CATIA and ENOVIA

· Demonstrated practical problemsolving and application of continuous improvement principles, e.g. FMEA, SPC,5 Why, fishbone, etc.
